The kitchen sink has definitely evolved. Sinks can be found in a variety of colors, size, shapes and materials. Depending on the size of your kitchen, you can choose to add a single sink or a double sink. If you happen to do a lot of cooking using large pots and pans, then it is recommended that you choose a sink option that is large and deep enough to accommodate those items.

There are several critical elements that come together to complete the look of the kitchen sink. They include:

The sink itself. The kitchen sink itself can be made from a number of materials. Stainless steel and aluminium kitchen sinks are among the most common. Both types of sinks are easy to clean and can handle high degree of activity that is usually associated with a kitchen sink. Seeing that the sink will be used on a daily basis, it is important that you invest in a sink that is sturdy and durable.
The kitchen sink faucet. The options for faucets are plenty. You can choose a simple faucet or a more elaborate one depending on the design of your kitchen. A modern or contemporary kitchen design is likely to have an interesting futuristic faucet. Companies such as Lowes, Home Depot, Moen, Kohler and Delta produce and/or sell a wide selection of faucets to suit almost any kitchen design.
The countertop. Your choice of countertop is just as important as the sink. You will need to choose a countertop material that has been sealed and will not allow water to seep through. This will keep mold out of your kitchen and allow you to keep your kitchen cupboard in good condition for years to come.
The backsplash. The backsplash is that area behind the stove that often extends to the area behind the sink. Decorative tiles are often used because they are easy to clean and will not absorb the soap water that will hit the area when dishes are being washed.
The runoff area. This is the area where the dish rack is usually placed. If you happen to wash your dishes and utensils by hand, you will need an area to place the rack to allow the excess water to flow back into the sink. This should be taken into consideration when designing the sink. If there is nowhere for the water to easily flow into the sink, you will end up with a wet countertop.
